Bastet was the goddess of protection and pleasure, bestowing good health upon others. Given she had the head of a cat and a slender female body, ancient Egyptians considered all cats to be demi-deities not only because they physically incarnated Bastet, but because they protected crops and slowed the spread of disease by killing vermin.
